What's in a name?

I love reading blogs and I think it's fascinating hearing about other people's lives, but I have never written a personal blog (so you'll have to forgive me in the beginning). I figure it is probably a good idea to provide you with an explanation for our blog title (Ohhhh how I struggled coming up with a title) and soon I will post a little introduction to myself and Jake.

Jake and I grew up in gorgeous Southeast Alaska, which is not the snow and tundra that I feel people usually picture when I mention our home. Southeast is mountains and trees and ocean and so much rain. It is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful places on the planet (I know we're all a little biased about our homes, but truly).

It is also one of the wettest. Juneau gets 100 inches of rain a year, which has made our current home in the Seattle area relatively desert-like. Nevertheless, Seattle isn't exactly known to be dry so it looks like we're drawn to liquid sunshine.

I really don't mind the cold and wet and neither does Jake.
Rain means clean air and new life. I often take it for granted but I am often reminded of how much we need it and how people suffer when it isn't there. Quite simply, it is a gift that I enjoy often and I figured this title would help me remember that, as well as reflect a little of who we are and where we come from. I will get to more on that later.

 Blessings.

Simple Things.

After doing the wash today, Jake insisted on making me a fort out of all of the warm sheets.
Love and joy are in the simple things.

Do you have any favorite simple pleasures?

Welcome!

I'm Cailey.
I like reading, traveling, antique-shopping, history, and going to the ballet.

This is Jake.
He likes hiking, skiing, fishing, boating, and working on his car.

And this is Indie.
She likes ripping the legs off of her stuffed animals and barking at mysterious noises.

We're pleased you've found our blog. Feel free to look around. There's bound to be some craft projects coming together, recipes brewing, homework being procrastinated on, and just a little bit of chaos.

All of these lovely photos were taken by Kristopher Lundborg. Check out his work.
